I am a big believer in breastfeeding and I believe I have said that before on here. I am breastfeeding my son and did both of my daughters. My boobs will be on the floor because of it but my babies will get the best start in life possible and that is all that matters to me. I live in a pretty forward thinking city but I have to say, breastfeeding while out and about is extremely difficult. I have had to go into gross bathrooms and prop myself up against walls or even stand just to feed my son. I personally would just do it at the table at a restaurant but I really don’t want the stares. Some people chose to live in the stone age and make it weird. I am just feeding my child! It’s not like my husband is under that blanket getting a drink! I should not have to hide, I should not have to take my son to the bathroom and people need to get over it! Yes, a bottle is more convenient and formula is more convenient but for who? Not the baby…..I remember reading an article about some brand of formula being recalled due to there being beetle eggs in it. Now, the convenience of that is unacceptable for my children. Why would I give my kids that crap when I am blessed and fortunate enough to have good milk and no problems feeding my children? Some women cannot breast feed and I understand that and actually feel very sorry for those women. Everyone deserves and choice and they and their babies dont get one. Its formula or nothing. My husband used to feel weird about it until he saw how strong and healthy our daughter was from breastfeeding and now he is actually judgemental of people who use formula. I’m glad his closed minded view of breastfeeding changed because it is non negotiable with me. That’s like grounds for divorce with me if you try and stop me from breastfeeding!! Not quite that bad but still, I would never listen or compromise. People MUST stop making it a sexual thing and make it a natural and accepted thing so moms like me arent in the bathroom with our babies! At the very least, restaurants need to provide a chair for situations like that! Its funny that back in the day, it was considered a “poor person” thing to breastfeed and then everyone woke up, did a little research and found out how good it is for your baby!! That was the first hurdle to get over and now we just have to change the minds of idiots who think it is in anyway sexual or inappropriate.
